SPECIAL CHARACTER:
What a wonderful day we had on Wednesday for Catholic School’s Day. The mass we celebrated with St Joseph’s, St John Bosco, Francis Douglas and Sacred Heart was a special celebration. Thank you to the parents who joined us for the mass and helped in various ways. A very big thank you must go to Anne Dent, our DRS, who spent many hours in preparation for the mass - Thank you Anne. The children then came back to school in the afternoon and baked. The baking was then taken by come of our School leaders to St Philomenas parishioners. We talked with the children about what was special about coming to a Catholic School. One of our main philosophies of Catholic Education is to live our lives as Jesus would. Because of this our school motto is KNOWING, DOING, CARING and this was the reason we baked for others. Thank you to the parents who came along to help in the classrooms with the baking.

INQUIRY:
Our Inquiry “Why Do People Work?” comes to an end next week. On Thursday afternoon the children are going to come together to share work they have done about the different roles and responsibilities people have and the impact these roles have on their community. This day will be an optional dress up day where the children are welcome to dress in clothes of people who hold different jobs e.g. builders apron, nurses uniform, chefs apron, hard hat etc.

Please do not go and hire a costume as it is optional and is not intended to be an extra expense for parents - just something simple will suffice.

ASSEMBLY:
Our next assembly, Friday 28th May, will be held on the concrete in front of the classrooms, weather permitted. The reason for this is the children would like to show you a display of the skipping skills they have been developing through our fitness programme this term. All children will be involved and I’m sure you will be impressed with their skills, so come along at the usual time of 2.20pm and be entertained!.

DRS COURSE:
Anne Dent will be away this coming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Palmerston North at the Director of Religious Studies Conference. A Reliever will be in Rm 5 for the three days.

PARENT INTERVIEWS:
You will find your Parent Interview times attached to this week’s newsletter. Thank you to Mary Jones for organising this - as you can imagine it is a big job and she has tried very hard to accommodate people with the times they requested.

TEACHER’S ONLY DAY:
Just a further reminder of our Teacher’s Only Day on Friday 4th June. The teachers will all be off-site for professional development on this day so the school will be closed.

BOARD OF TRUSTEE MEMBERS:
In last week’s newsletter I mentioned our new parent elected board members. As a Catholic School we also have two members who are appointed by the Parish as our Proprietor’s Representatives. The Parish have appointed Grant Novak and Andrew D’Ath to these positions, so congratulations to them both.
