SPECIAL CHARACTER:
All classes are now well underway with our next Religious Education Strand: God. Please see the insert that explains what each class is learning about and also gives you the reference to your Family/Whanau book.
It was lovely for the children and parents that celebrated First Communion this year to get together again on Wednesday night.
Thank you for making the effort to attend this evening. If there are any children who have made their First Communion and are interested in being Altar Servers at St Philomena’s please let me know and I’ll give your name to Sister Mary. Also the Parish are looking for parents who could help with Children’s Liturgy at Sunday masses. There is a roster so it only involves a turn every couple of months and I know your help would be greatly appreciated.

PAT’S BLOG:
Hey, check out Pat’s Blog page to find out more about ‘Searchin for Urchins’ and much much more. The species pictured here, Goniocidaris corona, is just one of the many fascinating creatures that live in and around us that Pat writes about. Without people like Pat showing a thirst for knowledge of our surroundings we may have never known about this beautiful sea urchin. Pat is back with us from Term 3 and we look forward to hearing all about his experiences.

WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD:
Ways to help your child with maths at home - everyday activities. Get your child involved in helping at the supermarket. Help younger children choose items to weigh. Ask how many apples or bananas weigh about a kilo?
For older children, ask them to look for the best buy, choosing between different makes of the same item (for example, blocks of cheese) and suggest they check out the amounts of sugar, salt and fat per serving.
Ways to help your child with reading at home - everyday activities. Encourage your child to ready anything - the TV guide in the newspaper, street signs and food labels. Recipes are great - you get to eat what you?ve read about too.
Visit the library regularly. Help your children choose books they?re interested in (about hobbies, interests or who they are and where they come from) or encourage them to get books out that are about what they are studying at school.
They may need you to help by reading to them as well.
