Virtue for the Fortnight
Joyfulness

Being joyful is:
Looking forward to each new day.
Do whatever I am doing with a joyful heart.
Find ways to have fun in work and play
When good things happen to me, enjoy them
When some things happen to me, let the sadness come and then let it go.

ICAS Exams:
It’s time again for deciding if you wish your child/ren to be involved in the annual ICAS exams. These exams are held over the next 2 terms and children from Yr 4-6 are able to take part. Please see the enclosed form and fill in and return with the fee if you wish your child/ren to sit any of the exams. Forms must be returned by Friday 7th May.

Kelly Sports:
The junior classes began their fundamental sport lessons this week and the seniors will begin theirs next week. The juniors really enjoyed their lesson and we are sure these lessons will teach the children many valuable new skills.

Home & School:
The Home and School Committee would love to have a few more members. They do a wonderful job raising money for the extras that your children need and also offering assistance with school activities. Please think about offering your help. See Jennifer Mallon, staff rep, if you are interested in helping or joining the committee. Thank you.

Graduation:
Mary Jones graduated on Wednesday at the TSB Showplace, receiving her certificate in Te Aro Reo Maori. Congratulations Mary - well deserved after much hard work.

Health & PE Consultation:
Please see attached a Health & PE Consultation. We are required to consult with the community on Health & PE every two years. Please take a few minutes to fill this out to help with our planning. Your feedback would be much appreciated.

BOT Elections:
You should have all received your voting forms for our Board of Trustee elections. The election closes on Friday 7th May, so please return your forms by 12noon to have your say.

Paid Union Meeting:
All teaching staff will be attending a Paid Union Meeting on Friday 7th May from 2.40-4pm. The school will remain open as usual as I will be at school to supervise all children.

Sport’s Trolley:
The children and staff were VERY excited this week with the arrival of our new sport’s trolley. Come and check it out....it’s wonderful! A VERY BIG thank you to Lee Fraser who applied for funding for the trolley. The funding was received from N.Z Community Trust. It is going to be a great asset and will be used daily by the children. The children had fun on Thursday experimenting with all the gear at Happy Hour.

Enrolments:
If you have children due to begin school at St Pius in 2011 could you please ask at the office for an enrolment pack. Also if you know any other families who have children starting school in 2011 and they are thinking about coming to St Pius please ask them to contact me as soon as possible for an appointment. This helps with our future planning.

Soccer:
I apologise for the confusion with soccer this year. Unfortunately there has been a real problem with organisation due to the two competitions. These problems and the disorganisation has been out of our control. There are two organisations running competitions, Taranaki Soccer and Central Soccer and there is a considerable amount of infighting happening between the two organisations and we and other schools/clubs are caught in the middle of the arguing. We want our children to play in the competition that other schools and clubs are playing in but unfortunately the adults running the competitions are not always, in my opinion, considering the children first!. I am hoping things will be sorted by the time you receive this newsletter and I do sincerely apologise for all the confusion. Thank you to Stacey Williams, our sport’s co-ordinator, for her patience and hard work on this issue - it’s been very frustrating!

NETBALL NOTICES:
Junior Netball Team will have netball practice on Monday after school 3.00pm - 3.45pm. Please make sure you have the appropriate kit with you. Kelly Megchelse.

Basketball Results:
This week St Pius Scorpians played Frankley Globetrotters and lost
28-4 . Tyson Hutchinson was POD.

BOOK ORDERS:
Just a reminder that book orders are due into the school
office by Monday 3rd May. Thankyou.
